Police have arrested and charged a third suspect in connection with the July shooting death of 10-year-old Makiyah Wilson, officials announced Wednesday.

Gregory Taylor, 23, of Fort Washington, Maryland, is in police custody for his suspected role in the shooting in Northeast this summer that left Wilson dead and four others, including her older sister, wounded. Taylor has been charged with first degree murder while armed.

Wilson’s killing rocked the community and highlights a worsening trend of violent crime in the District. Homicides this year are up 43 percent compared to the same period last year. So far this year, D.C. has recorded 134 homicides.

“We were all outraged by this case and the one thing that we promised to do is to do everything we possibly could to find the folks that were responsible for this heinous crime and ensure that they were held responsible,” Metropolitan Police Department Chief Peter Newsham said at a press conference Wednesday.

Wilson was shot and injured while going out to buy ice cream from a truck on the evening of July 16. She was later pronounced dead. Video of the incident shows four people in masks jumping out of a car and spraying bullets in what police described as a “brazen and reckless” shooting.

Quentin Michals, 21, and Qujuan Thomas, 20, were arrested in late August in connection with the shooting. Both were charged with first-degree murder while armed.

Police say they are seeking at least two additional suspects in connection with the incident.

“Sooner or later, we are going to come and get you,” Newsham warned the remaining suspects. “We’re not going to tolerate this in our community.”

Police on Wednesday also announced an arrest in the case of a pregnant woman who sustained multiple gunshot wounds last month. Both the woman and the unborn child survived the shooting.
