On Tuesday evening, dozens of drag queens will compete for their honor in the 32nd annual 17th Street High Heel Race, strapping on their heels and sprinting a tenth of a mile to potential glory. Thousands of people will gather in Dupont to watch the event, which takes place on the Tuesday before Halloween.
But if you’re not a competing queen or an adoring fan, the event will mainly mean street closures around Dupont on the evening of October 30. Here are the closures and parking restrictions to watch out for, per the Metropolitan Police Department:
The following streets will be closed and posted as Emergency No Parking for the event from approximately 5:30 p.m. to 11 p/m.:
- 17th Street, NW from R Street, NW to P Street, NW
The following streets will be closed for the event from approximately 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.:
- 17th Street, NW from S Street, NW to P Street, NW
- Riggs Place, NW from 16th Street, NW to New Hampshire Avenue, NW
- R Street, NW from 16th Street, NW to 18th Street, NW
- Corcoran Street, NW from 16th Street, NW to 18th Street, NW
- Q Street, NW from 16th Street, NW to 18th Street, NW
- Church Street, NW from 16th Street, NW to 18th Street, NW
