MOVIE NIGHT: Reel Affirmations Film Festival, D.C.’s international LGBTQ film festival and monthly film series continues with Eva + Candela directed by Rut Caudeli and Tale of the Lost Boys, directed by Joselito Altarejos. HIP-HOP HUB: Words Beats Life, the citywide celebration of hip-hop hosted by the nonprofit Words Beats & Life, takes over the Kennedy Center with Landover, Md., native Kev Brown and Brussels-based collective CNN199. The weekend continues with temporary mural installations, spoken word performances by D.C. Youth Poet Laureate finalists and three-on-three battles. RUMOURS: It may be November, but Halloween is a state of mind that lasts all year, right? A NEW PERSPECTIVE: At the National Gallery of Art, a new exhibit on photographer Gordon Parks’ career centers on the 1940s, in which Parks went from self-taught to sought after by Vogue and Life.
