THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 22

TROT ALONG: Is there anything more quintessentially Thanksgiving than a Turkey Trot? We think not. Online registration for SOME’s Thanksgiving Day Trot for Hunger is closed, but you can still sign up tomorrow at Freedom Plaza. And here are four other trots happening in Maryland and Virginia. WINTER WONDERLAND: Can’t get enough cold? The annual ICE! event at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center features two million pounds of ice sculptures, four two-story tall ice slides, and all sorts of A Charlie Brown Christmas tie-ins. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 23

ALL OF THE LIGHTS: The National Zoo is illuminated by 500,000 LED lights for this year’s ZooLights. The nighttime celebrations with live performances, holidays shopping and seasonal snacks including s’mores continues through Jan. 1 (National Zoo, 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., FREE)

NATIONAL DAY OF SHOPPING: The 14th annual Downtown Holiday Market returns with arts, clothes, crafts and jewelry. Brave the cold and crowds for daily live music performances. Also on hand: Vigilante Coffee Co. and Alexa’s Empanadas. (8th and F Streets NW, 12:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., FREE)

CULTURE INSTEAD OF A CROWED MALL: Honor Native American Heritage Day at the National Museum of the American Indian with a day of interactive presentations for families, including storytelling, dance and hands-on activities. (National Museum of the American Indian, 10:00 a.m., FREE)

ALL THE RIGHT PLACES: For over a decade, Atlanta’s Manchester Orchestra has been creating heartfelt rock that’s both brash and big-hearted. The group is joined by New Jersey’s the Front Bottoms.(The Anthem, 6:00 p.m. doors, 7:30 p.m. show, $35-$55)
