Naval Support Activity Bethesda tweeted that no active shooter was found. The all-clear has been given and employees can once again move freely around the base.

The U.S. Navy has since confirmed that the reports stemmed from an ad hoc drill.

Dutch Ruppersberger, a Maryland Congressman who was on site as police investigated, said that “at no point was there any indication that this was a drill.”

Officers arrived on scene shortly before 3 p.m. and haven’t yet confirmed anything.

Dutch Ruppersberger, a U.S. Congressman for Maryland’s second district, tweeted that he was at Walter Reed in a conference room with about 40 other people. Police had told them all they were responding to an active shooter call.

A spokesperson for Naval Support Activity Bethesda, which provides base operational support for the medical center, confirmed that officials are clearing the building out of an abundance of caution. There is no indication yet of an actual active shooter. The reports originated in Building 19 of the medical center, according to the spokesperson.
