Coffee brand loyalists tend to be pretty stubborn (just ask any Philz person), but free coffee can make turncoats of even the most ardent Starbucks, Peets, or Compass fan. On Wednesday, Gregorys Coffee will open its fourth D.C. location at 1101 Connecticut Ave. NW and tempt Farragut coffee aficionados with free drinks all day.
You’ll find your typical mochas and cappuccinos at Gregorys, as well as single-origin brews made with an Aeropress. There’s also more experimental fare: As Washington City Paper reported, the menu also includes turmeric or matcha lattes and some concoctions with activated charcoal, plus the option to add CBD oil to any drink.
On Wednesday, you can try a 12 oz drink for free (yes, including those with CBD oil) anytime during the day (6:30 a.m.-6 p.m.). Later in the week, they’re making it a little harder: The team will be handing out a pair of Gregs glasses—modeled after the stylish pair worn by founder Gregory Zamfotis—at the Farragut North, Farragut West, and Dupont Circle Metro stations. Don them in the new location in exchange for a free 12 oz drink on Thursday and Friday.
Gregorys is also hosting D.C.-area baristas in a latte art competition on Thursday at 8 p.m., where snacks and coffee cocktails will be on hand.
If you can get over the fact that Gregorys Coffee doesn’t use a possessive apostrophe despite the fact that it’s owned by a guy named Gregory, you’ve got your coffee plans sorted this week.
Gregorys Coffee is located at 1101 Connecticut Ave. NW. Hours are Monday-Friday 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
