See D.C. in full winter wonderland mode

CityCenterDC will be bringing winter to Washington with a snowy view of D.C.’s monuments. See the District’s sights in chillier form in an interactive ice exhibit. Walk among the 12-foot structures, which took more than 50,000 pounds of ice to make, all weekend. Note, it will be closed from 2-4 p.m. each day for repairs. Find a whole lot of other holiday installations here, too.

Check everything off your list

Miss Pixie’s Furnishings & Whatnot, a vintage shop supplied with funky home decor, will be hosting their 6th Annual Holiday Market. The night of holiday shopping will feature over 15 local small businesses, live gypsy jazz tunes by The Bitter Dose Combo, and vegetarian paella from Barcelona Wine Bar. In addition there will be a raffle where all proceeds will be donated to Casa Ruby, a bilingual LGBTQ organization providing services to Washington D.C. residents.

Skip Hallmark—make your holiday cards this year

Launch the holiday season by creating handmade cards at the National Postal Museum’s annual Holiday Card Workshop. At this workshop you can choose from a selection of colorful papers, international vintage stamps, and lots of other supplies to make a one-of-a-kind holiday card. After making your cards, you’ll be able to visit the museum’s stamp store to send the cards to your loved ones with a unique Postal Museum postmark.

Celebrate Kwanzaa at this celebration

Enjoy a day of learning about the African-American holiday Kwanzaa and African culture with the Smithsonian Museum of African Art. Deep dive into the festival’s history and themes through art and workshops, and even try out a dance from the children of the KanKouran West African Dance Company. The event will also feature poetry, a candle-lighting ceremony, an arts and crafts workshop, and a trunk show.

Honey, they shrunk the White House

See the White House, but much, much smaller. The White House Historical Association is displaying a LEGO White House Exhibit with all its Christmas trimmings throughout the holiday season. Originally built for LEGO’s Americana Roadshow, the scale model shrinks the White House down to 2 ½ feet tall—a process that took four LEGO experts 825 hours.
The White House Visitor Center, 1450 Pennsylvania Avenue, through January 29, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
