THE YOUNG PERSON’S GUIDE TO MUSIC: Grammy-winning clarinetist and composer Oran Etkin introduces little ears to the sounds of Mozart, Herbie Hancock, Willie Nelson, and more with Music for Young Audiences: Timbalooloo Live. SIMPLY HAVING A SCARY CHRISTMASTIME: If you’ve had it with Christmas cheer and would prefer something a little more spooky, head to the Washington National Cathedral’s Ghosts and Gargoyles: Haunted and Holiday Secrets Tour. The walking tour explores the exterior of the D.C. landmark, and its little-known scary tales. (Washington National Cathedral, 7 p.m.-9 p.m., $25)

POLITICS AND PLAYS: Can’t get enough Capitol Hill? The drama Kings, written by Alexandria native Sarah Burgess, examines life in the Beltway and beyond through the lens of a new congresswoman and a lobbyist she encounters. Check out our review. (Studio Theatre, through Jan. 6, $20-$69)

OLD SCHOOL: Hear the songs of ghosts of Christmas past with a performance of mid-winter music of early America from David and Ginger Hildebrand. Expect period appropriate instrumentation and costume, too. (Smithsonian National Postal Museum, 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., FREE)
