On New Year’s Eve, there’s no need to party like it’s a Monday night (though it will be): Metro is staying open late, the streetcar will be rolling after midnight, and free Lyft rides are available for post-midnight revelers to travel home safely. Here’s what you need to know to travel around D.C. on the last night of the year, even during the pumpkin-turning hours.
- Metro: Trains will run until 2 a.m., continuing a practice started last year. The exact time of the last train will vary by station: It’s best to consult each station’s schedule, then add two and a half hours to the last train time, to know your deadline. Off-peak fares will be in effect. On New Year’s Day, Metro will run on a Sunday schedule: 8 a.m.-11 p.m.
- Streetcar: The streetcar will run up and down H Street until 2 a.m.
- Metrobus: Buses are operating on a normal schedule. Final bus times vary by bus line.
- Lyft: The Washington Regional Alcohol Program is offering a free Lyft ride home (up to $15) on New Year’s Eve. You’ll have to enter a promo code into your Lyft app. The code will be available on the WRAP site at noon on Monday: After you enter it, the promo is valid between 8 p.m.-4 a.m. that night.
- Uber: Scrofano Law PC, which specializes in part on DUI defense law, is responsible for a promo code that’ll get you a free ride (up to $10) from midnight-4 a.m. on New Year’s Eve. To get it, you’ll need to be starting the ride in the District, and within a 5-mile radius of Logan Circle. Enter the code e69n2da to snag the deal.
- Alternatively, if you’re someone who still hasn’t downloaded Uber, now might be your moment. Miller Lite is offering free rides (up to $15) for first-time Uber downloaders with the promo code MILLERTIME18. This one is valid through February 27, not just on New Year’s Eve.
