As the partial federal government shutdown enters its third week without any meaningful progress towards a resolution, furloughed workers continue to face each day without the knowledge of when they’ll get their next paycheck. But it looks like they can secure free improv comedy or podcasting classes on Tuesday.

American University (which owns DCist’s parent company, WAMU) and Washington Improv Theater are among the organizations offering free classes to federal employees on January 8, contributions joining the slew of free and discounted food and drink options that folks flashing a federal government ID can score.

American University has scheduled an entire day of skills and management training on Tuesday “to show appreciation for our hardworking public servants.” Classes range from yoga to negotiating skills to, yes, starting a podcast. The day, billed “Classes Without Quizzes,” includes free breakfast and lunch to any federal employee who can show an ID and registers.

For federal workers looking to say “yes, and … ” Washington Improv Theater is hosting a free Improv for All workshop on January 8th at noon. WIT monthly offers these free introductory workshops, and attendees don’t have to show off a federal ID card to join. (Additionally, WIT’s executive director has proffered a free bipartisan improv workshop to members of the new Congress and their chiefs of staff to end the shutdown.)

In addition to learning something new at a class, there are also a healthy number of museums with free admission if you show your federal ID.
