Free tickets are available for anyone, not just feds, at I.M.P. venues, including The Anthem.

As the shutdown’s end still seems remote, furloughed workers remain out of the office and unsure when their next paycheck will arrive. D.C.’s food and arts institutions have leapt up to help with deals on food and drinks and free entry to museums. Because there are only so many &pizza pies you can eat or times you can wander through the National Building Museum, furloughed workers might need a few more cost effective things to do. Here are a few deals available for furloughed workers who show their federal employee ID.

American University Athletics

Federal workers can receive two free tickets to athletics events at American University (which owns DCist’s parent company, WAMU), including wrestling matches and men’s and women’s basketball games. All home games during January are up for grabs. Call the ticket office at 202-885-TIXX for details.

National Geographic/AMC Georgetown

Federal employees with an ID can each claim two free tickets to the documentary Free Solo at the Georgetown AMC theater, plus vouchers for free popcorn and soda. The deal is sponsored by National Geographic, which produced the documentary about Alex Honnold, a climber seeking to perform the first free solo climb of the El Capitan rock face at Yosemite National Park. Screenings are January 15-17 at 1 p.m.

Arena Stage

Free tickets to two upcoming shows are available for federal employees: Kleptocracya drama that takes place shortly after the fall of the Soviet Union, if you can possibly cast your mind to a time when U.S.-Russia relations were tense, and The Heiress, a melodrama about a young woman who finds her voice despite all the terrible men around her. Select tickets here, and present your ID at will call.

Capital City Go-Go

Feds get free entry to D.C.’s G-league basketball team’s next home game on Saturday against the Long Island nets. Redeem two free tickets at the box office on Saturday only by showing your federal employee ID.

Balance Gym

The gym with locations in Glover Park, Foggy Bottom, Capitol Hill, and Thomas Circle is offering free workout time for furloughed folks: Just show your federal employee ID for free entry Monday-Friday from 1-4 p.m. for free access.

Cycled Studios

Cycled is offering a free class for feds who are first-timers to the cycling/barre/yoga studio. Use the code “SweatItOut@CYCLED!” to book a bike at a cycling class at the gym’s Silver Spring location, or to get into a cycling, barre, or yoga class at the Takoma Park gym. Use your government employee ID to check in.

George Mason University Basketball

Score free tickets to any men’s or women’s basketball game during the shutdown by heading to the box office at EagleBank Arena and showing your federal employee ID. Each employee can redeem up to two tickets.

George Washington University Basketball

Feds get free tickets to all men’s and women’s basketball games by calling 202-994-GWTIX and using a government ID to redeem.

I.M.P. Concerts

The group behind some of the city’s most popular concert venues is offering a BOGO deal on tickets. Anyone—not just feds— can buy a ticket to any (not sold-out) show taking place through Feb. 8 at the 9:30 Club, The Anthem, Lincoln Theatre, and 9:30 Presents at U Street Music Hall, and get a second ticket free. Enter 930Freebie at checkout to redeem the deal through Jan. 14 (or until the shutdown ends). Each person can redeem the deal up to two times.

Studio Theatre

See Studio’s dramas Admissionsabout a battle for a spot at an Ivy League school that raises topics of privilege and power, or Kings, about the Capitol Hill machinations of a lobbyist and freshman congresswoman. On second thought, that one might hit a little close to home. Feds get 20 percent off when they use the code DCisOPEN at checkout and show their government employee ID at the box office.

Woolly Mammoth

The theater is offering 15 percent off tickets for furloughed workers to its play BLKSa girls-night-out comedy. Use the code SHUTDOWN at checkout and show your government employee ID at the box office.

VIDA Fitness

Furloughed employees can attend a workout class at any VIDA Fitness location free of charge until the government reopens. VIDA offers classes in yoga, barre, pilates, cardio dance, cycling, and more at gyms in Logan Circle, The Yards, City Vista, U Street, and Gallery Place. Sign up via the form here.

MINT Gym

The 14th Street location of the boutique gym is offering select classes for free for federal employees—including both furloughed and essential workers. A yoga class on January 16, a “Power Playground” class on January 17, and a boxing class on January 18 are all up for grabs.
