Plenty of local restaurants, theaters, and breweries are stepping up in the wake of the government shutdown to offer relief to furloughed federal workers. Now a national brand is getting in on the action: Kraft—best known for mac and cheese that comes with very cute commercials—is setting up a pop-up grocery store in D.C. this week for government employees.
Their Kraft Now. Pay Later. shop near Union Market will offer a variety of Kraft products—that’s barbecue sauce, salad dressing, cheese Singles, mayonnaise, and yes, mac and cheese. Furloughed workers will need to show their federal ID to pick up a bag of food.
“Don’t worry about paying now,” the Facebook event reads. “Once the situation gets back to normal, if you can pay it back we would ask you to pay it forward to your favorite charity.”
This week’s event follows Capital Food Bank’s five free pop-up grocery stores scattered across the city, which were attended by hundreds of federal workers.
Kraft Now. Pay Later. will be located at 1287 4th St NE. Hours are Wednesday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Thursday-Sunday 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
