Cherry Glazerr comes to town this week. Pamela Littky

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 13

Certainly, L.A.-based indie rock band Cherry Glazerr can be loud and jangly. But the trio is perhaps best when holding back, as with the ultra-hip “Self Explained.” Catch them at U Street Music Hall. Show 7 p.m. $20. All ages, accessible venue.

“I am just a kid / I never use my brain / I only use my heart/ And my imagination.” If you’re curious where that song goes, head to Black Cat for Current Joys, the solo project of Nevada-bred Nick Rattigan. Doors 7:30 p.m. $15. All ages, accessible venue.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 14

Besides having a pretty righteous band name, Valley Queen also has a pretty great sound, the kind of ’70s-vibe stuff that could easily sneak into the Five Easy Pieces soundtrack unnoticed. Catch them at Songbyrd. Show 8 p.m. $12-$14. All ages, inaccessible space.

D.C.-based singer-songwriter Cecily comes to Sotto for a pair of Valentine’s Day performances. Shows 7:30 p.m./10 p.m. $115 (covers admission and four-course meal). All ages.

Interpol comes to town this week. Jamie James Medina

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 15

Interpol brings its post-punk-revival glory to The Anthem with dream-rock trio Sunflower Bean. Show 8 p.m. $40-$55. All ages, accessible venue.

Forget Cheap Trick’s “I Want You To Want Me” (which, frankly, is bested by a cover version). We want to talk about an overlooked ditty from the 1970s/’80s hair metal band: “Mighty Wings” It’s featured on the Top Gun soundtrack, from the era when every major Hollywood film had to have a couple of lackluster written-for-the-movie pop songs to cue up during climactic scenes, and of course, when the credits rolled. And dare we say, this one rivals the better known “Danger Zone.” See the band that made it possible at The Theater at MGM National Harbor. Show 8 p.m. $29-$69. All ages, accessible venue.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 16

Been dreaming of the day when some ’90s and early aughts R&B all-stars would share one stage nearby? Well, that moment soon arrives with the Valentine’s Love Jam headed for EagleBank Arena, featuring a solid lineup of Ginuwine, Tyrese, Next, 112 and Avant. Show 8 p.m. $59-$125. All ages, accessible venue.

Charlotte, North Carolina-based emo-tinged rock duo It Looks Sad joins Brooklyn’s math-rock outfit Peaer at Songbyrd. Show 9 p.m. $7 suggested donation. All ages, accessible venue.

The Knocks come to town this week. The Knocks

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17

From collaborations with Foster the People to Wyclef Jean to POWERS, producer duo The Knocks is a bit of a dance-pop darling. Catch them at the 9:30 Club. Doors 7 p.m. $25. All ages, accessible venue.

Any good Gen Xer or older millennial has a soft spot in their heart for Boyz II Men, the boy band that brought us some of the most masterful slow jams in music history. Whether it’s “The End of the Road,” “I’ll Make Love To You,” “On Bended Knee” (which features not one but … wait for it … TWO satisfying key changes) that gets you going, you really shouldn’t pass up an opportunity to pay tribute. (And be sure to brush up on their latter-day releases as well—this one came with a lil’ inspo from *NSYNC.) Catch them at The Theater at MGM National Harbor. Show 8 p.m. $137-$289. All ages, accessible venue.

Chicago-bred, contemporary jazz multi-instrumentalist Kahil El’Zabar, the subject of 2015 documentary Be Known, comes to Rhizome DC with his Ethnic Heritage Ensemble. Show 5 p.m. $20. All ages, inaccessible venue.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18

One part Kate Bush, one part Kimbra, Empress Of is one of the freshest musicians you’ll find. (This Color Minutes project from 2012 blew our minds.) Catch her with Salt Cathedral at Rock and Roll Hotel. Show 8 p.m. $15-$17. All ages, accessible venue.
