Take the outdoor movie experience indoors
Summer is usually the only time of year we get to watch family-friendly flicks while sprawled out on blankets and noshing on picnics, but now the National Cathedral is bringing the outdoor movie experience inside. Catch a screening of 2018’s The LEGO Batman Movie from the comfort of your blanket, yoga mat, pillow, or other comfy flat seat. Picnic dinners are welcome, glass and alcohol are not.
National Cathedral, Friday, 6 p.m.
Finally win gold in cornhole
Maybe our Olympic dreams won’t ever get off the ground, but we can still hope for victory at the Wharf Winter Games. The neighborhood is setting aside an afternoon for a little healthy competition in such games as cornhole, curling, pin the tail on the husky (because of winter, maybe?), and “dogsled” races that promise no actual dog involvement. Cheerleaders can enjoy s’mores, hot drinks, beer, and wine; those who really prefer the Summer Olympics can just cozy up by the fire pit.
The Wharf, Saturday, 2 p.m.-5 p.m.
Run through the long weekend
If you’re a person for whom “fun” and “run” could reasonably appear in the same sentence, join Adams Morgan’s fitness store Fleet Feet’s weekly gathering. Every Sunday morning, the group heads out on a course of roughly five miles that varies each week, usually speeding through parts of Rock Creek Park. Runners typically stay on 7-12 minute mile pace.

Go on a free trip back in time
Taking in the grounds and the extensive history at Mount Vernon will normally run you $18-$20, but it seems George Washington’s estate is feeling generous on the occasion of his 287th birthday. Admission is free on Monday to the grounds and to the all-day birthday celebration, which includes a wreath laying and gun salute from “Continental soldiers,” followed by live patriotic music. Reenacters will be on hand to spill the beans on how G.W. really partied back in his day.
George Washington’s Mount Vernon, Monday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Take your Shakespeare with a shot … or two
Take Drunk History and add in some of the Bard and you’ve got Shakespeare in the Pub, a regular series in which performers read plays aloud while not exactly sober. Up this weekend is Henry VIII, which is good, because actors probably need a couple drinks to get through all those trials.
The Pinch, Monday, 7:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.
