D.C. chef and philanthropist José Andrés is taking a night off from feeding victims of disasters both natural and man-made to help present the Best Picture Oscar at this Sunday’s Academy Awards.
While this year’s ceremony is infamously sans host for the first time since 1989, Andrés is among the latest batch of 11 “highly recognized talents from various walks of life” who will introduce the eight nominees for the evening’s most sought-after prize.
“We are thrilled to assemble this well-known array of film lovers to introduce and share their reflections on the Best Picture-nominated movies,” the show’s producers say.
In a tweet, the Academy tweeted that Andrés would be a presenter, along with Dana Carvey and Queen Latifah. The others are Congressman John Lewis, Diego Luna, Tom Morello, Mike Myers, Trevor Noah, Amandla Stenberg, Barbra Streisand, and Serena Williams (who is presenting A Star Is Born). The Academy hasn’t yet announced which movie Andrés will present.
This isn’t the celebrity chef’s Oscar debut. Andrés was among the activists who appeared during Common and Andra Day’s musical performance last year, during which he unfurled the Puerto Rican flag.

This may not be the only awards show this year for Andres … he’s also been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
