February in Washington often feels cold, wet and dreary. Summer vacation still hangs far away, and there are times where it feels like the sun hasn’t come out in weeks. That’s why everyone ought to use this Friday, National Margarita Day (yes, it’s apparently a real thing), as a salt-rimmed opportunity to sit back, relax, and dream about warmer times ahead. Here are the restaurants and bars around D.C. that’ll be offering specials this Feb. 22.
El Rey
919 U St. NW
Celebrate the occasion with an extended drink menu at the Shaw taqueria. Be sure to get there early, because from noon to 7 p.m. all margaritas will be $7, and $9 from 7 p.m. until close. The same goes for pitchers, which will start at $24 and go up to $32 after 7 p.m. Not a fan of the classic lime? El Rey has you covered with a selection of blueberry, strawberry, and mango margaritas.
Fish Taco
multiple locations
Bethesda Mexican restaurant chain Fish Taco will be serving their signature frozen margaritas for $5 all day long, so get sipping.
Mission
1221 Van St. SE and 1606 20th St. NW
At both Mission locations, you can sip on $7 house margaritas, or if you came with a crowd, splurge on a pitcher for $23. If you’re feeling hungry, Mission will also be serving an $8 nacho special. The party starts at 4 p.m. and will continue until closing.
MXDC Cocina Mexicana
600 14th St. NW
The downtown Mexican restaurant will be serving four creative margaritas from $6-$12. Offerings include the cucumber jalapeño margarita, mixed with tequila, MXDC cordial, house-made cucumber-jalapeno puree, agave, and fresh lime juice. Their house margaritas will also be available in a choice of lime, strawberry, mango, pineapple, or blackberry flavors. The party starts at 11:30 a.m. and will continue until midnight.
Tico
1926 14th St. NW
Want more control over your marg? Tico on 14th Street will let you design your own at a build-your-own-margarita bar. If you’d rather sit back and let the mixologists do all the work, there are three specialty drinks on offer: The Winter Spice Margarita, a Hibiscus Margarita, and the Mexican Margarita. Tacos are $5 and nachos are $10.
