Much like it did on Election Day, Capital Bikeshare is offering riders a free 24-hour pass on Earth Day.
Users who enter the code EARTHDAY19 into the Bikeshare app on Monday can take as many 30-minute rides as they’d like. A one-day pass normally costs $8.
But those rides will all be on your regular pedal pushers; Bikeshare was recently forced to pull its electric bikes off the street due to a brake issue.
“Start your week off right this Earth Day and hop on a bike for a carbon-neutral, free commute,” said Nicole Wynands, the bicycle program manager for Fairfax County, in a release.
The system’s operator, Motivate (which is in turn owned by Lyft), reports that riders have already taken 700,000 trips in 2019. Capital Bikeshare estimates that those rides have offset a million pounds of carbon.
In other bike-related news, Bike to Work Day returns on May 17.
