Play Parisian at the Georgetown French Market

Put that week you actually used Duolingo to work in Georgetown this weekend: Book Hill on Wisconsin Avenue is transforming into a French market. There are pastries and coffee for sale, nearby shops will be offering discounts, and strolling musicians are promised. There are plenty of free activities as well, including face painting, live jazz performances, and a photo booth (where you’ll say “fromage,” bien sûr).
Book Hill, Friday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday 12 p.m.-5 p.m.

Get lost in some kaleidoscopes at Strathmore

As anyone who’s gotten totally sucked into one of those music visualizer videos can tell you, kaleidoscopes are basically the visual trigger for ASMR. Strathmore’s latest exhibit gathers the work of kaleidoscope artists from around the world in a variety of mediums, including sculpture and jewelry. Just in case you find yourself entranced, go ahead and block off the afternoon.

Find out the scoop on getting published

The D.C. Public Library began accepting self-published works of fiction to add to its library this year. But what about all the steps to getting published before that? Find out at the DC Author Festival, a one-day conference from DCPL and the Library of Congress. The festival includes workshops and panels on structuring a story, working with an agent, and marketing your work of genius. If you need some inspiration, Michael Twitty, author of The Cooking Gene: A Journey Through African-American Culinary Traditions in the Old South, will discuss his work.
Library of Congress, Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., registration required.

Get sweaty with a boot camp workout in Adams Morgan

Surely we can agree, the drab walls of your gym are probably a lot less motivating than blue skies and flowers. The Line hotel will host a boot camp workout outside at nearby Unity Park, courtesy of D.C.’s Crossfit-minded gym Urban Athletic Club. Expect burpees, box jumps, and a whole lotta sweat.
The Line, Saturday, 9 a.m.
