Nearly two months after Meridian Pint decamped to Arlington, we know what’s opening in its Columbia Heights digs. Makan, a new Malaysian restaurant, will open later this summer.
James Wozniuk, formerly the chef de cuisine at Maketto, is partnering with Kendrick Wu on the project.
Makan translates to “to eat” in Malay. The restaurant will use Mid-Atlantic ingredients in its Malaysian dishes, according to an emailed statement. Wu and Wozniuk did not respond to immediate requests for comment.
Washingtonians have had pretty slim pickin’s for Malaysian cuisine: There’s Penang Malaysian & Thai Cuisine in Bethesda, and the occasional Malay dish at Asian restaurants, such as mee goreng (fried spicy noodles), roti canai (a type of flatbread), or curry laksa (a spicy noodle soup with a coconut milk-based broth).
