D.C. Fire and EMS was on the scene of a collapsed building on the 1300 block of 13th Street NW Wednesday, according to department spokesperson Vito Maggiolo. The building appears to have been a three-story row house that was under renovation. It suffered a partial structural collapse of the second floor, Maggiolo says.

The fire department had to remove one worker from the collapsed home, and he was transported to a local hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, according to Maggiolo. A team of K9s has swept the area and found no one else in the home, he says.
An adjacent home was evacuated for a short period of time, but inspectors decided it was structurally sound and allowed inhabitants to return, Maggiolo says.
Now the situation will be turned over to the building’s owners and the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs. A portion of 13th Street NW was closed for a time while the department was on scene, but will reopen shortly, Maggiolo says.
