Update 7/11: You can watch a livestream of the reading here.
Original:
It was only a thousand years (or two 2019 months) ago that Special Counsel Robert Mueller dropped the results of his two-year investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Now, it’s getting the dramatic treatment: Arena Stage is putting on an 11-hour staged reading of Volume II of the report.
So far, the scheduled readers for next month’s showing include activist Charlotte Clymer, former Shakespeare Theatre Company artistic director Michael Kahn, actor and Round House artistic director Ryan Rilette, and Studio Theater artistic director David Muse. Local politicians, including Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen, At-Large Councilmember David Grosso, and Eleanor Holmes Norton, D.C.’s delegate to the House of Representatives, have also been tapped to participate.
The reading—billed as “nonpartisan” in a release—is free to attend, and will be held in the theater’s Molly Smith Study (it may be cramped—the space holds 200 seats). The event is a partnership with local actor and activist Jjana Valentiner.
“As a theater focused on American plays and American stories, the Mueller Report is a far-reaching and intricate American story about D.C. and the people in it,” Arena artistic director Molly Smith says in a release. “This is our city and so many of these events happened here.”
In addition to the names above, folks without a Wikipedia page can also read chunks of the report aloud: There are up to 200 slots of 5 to 20 minutes available. Signups are available by email.
What kind of drama are you signing up for, exactly? While most of the Russia stuff is dealt with in Volume I, the Mueller Report B-sides Volume II “deals with potential obstruction of justice by President Trump,” according to Lawfare. Now you’ve just got to practice your imitation of a certain tight-lipped Georgetown resident.
A Reading of the Mueller Report, Volume II takes place July 11 from 12 p.m.-11 p.m. FREE.
