Fans of Call Your Mother will have another place to presumably queue up for giant bagel sandwiches: The the self-described “Jew-ish” bagel store is expanding with a Georgetown location.

Washington Business Journal was the first to report the news that the team is taking over a 1,100-square-foot space at 3428 O St. NW. The store’s founder (and self-described “Chief Dough Boy”) Andrew Dana tells DCist that the team had the opportunity to sign a lease for a property in Georgetown, and they immediately took it. “We love that building and that area,” he says. In fact, Call Your Mother sells its food once a week in a nearby farmers market.

“[The new property] is off the main strip,” Dana says, “and we love neighborhoods.”

The exact plans for the future Call Your Mother location—as well as an opening date—are still very much up in the air. “We’re currently figuring out what to do in the space … everything is still in its infancy,” he says.

According to Dana, the building—currently housed by GreenWorks Florist—hadn’t been touched in 40 years, and there’s a lot to figure out, especially regarding the layout of the kitchen. Regardless, Dana is excited and “ready for the next challenge.” He also loves the color of the building: a bright pink with green shutters.

The original Call Your Mother opened in Park View in Fall 2018, two years after the debut of the team’s sister restaurant, the Bib Gourmand-winning Timber Pizza in Petworth. There are traditional Jewish deli items on the menu, as well as Chef Dani Moreira’s Argentinian recipes and fusions of the two. “We’re doing our own thing,” Dana says, calling the food, “nothing too classic.”

The bagel shop and deli faced huge numbers of customers in the first few days of its opening, causing the store to have to redo the menu and close up shop on Mondays for a few months. (Now, they’re open every day of the week.) They also host Tuesday-Thursday night family suppers featuring all types of food—pasta, hot takes on fast food, and Southern-style cuisine.

Meanwhile, keep an eye out for Call Your Mother’s summer menu—it’ll be revealed tomorrow. Dana hints that diners can expect a few seasonal bagels, as well as “corn cream cheese, seasonal summer fruits, and a couple of surprises.”
