Granny and the Boys have a gig at … Nando’s?

The fashion at one of the weekly Granny and the Boys shows at Showtime Lounge skews young and hip: Think artfully damaged jeans and band T-shirts plucked from the vintage rack. But at this weekend’s show at a Nando’s, of all places, the scene is expected to be a little more … graying. The chain is throwing a grandma-themed party this Saturday called, honestly, “Nando’s Like My Nan Does.”

This surely Mad Libs-sponsored event started with an online contest that asked customers to explain what they’d do if they could take over a Nando’s restaurant for a day. One D.C. resident said he’d throw a grandma-themed party. “Dress up like your nan in pastel skirts, gray wigs, granny glasses, pearls, enormous paisley handbag,” his extremely detailed entry reads. “Come to enjoy Nando’s finger foods served on fine china, with metal silverware, cloth napkins, and three-tier serving trays.”

All that will be present at Saturday’s party at the chain’s Navy Yard location: Tea sandwiches and wings will arrive on silver platters, tea will be served in teacups, and glasses and pearls will be available to don if you neglected the “granny chic” dress code. Other typical Nando’s dishes are also on the menu, and there’s an open bar.

As for the inclusion of one of D.C.’s most beloved (and most romantic) bands, Nando’s marketing manager Sam Blum says it was the company’s idea to add the octogenarian-led group to the day’s activities. Cat puzzles and knitting are also on offer.

The contest winner and his guests are the main attendees of the party, but Nando’s is releasing 20-30 tickets to the public. Granny fans can complete an online questionnaire in hopes of being selected by the company.

Nando’s Like My Nan Does takes place at Nando’s Navy Yard on Saturday at 3 p.m. FREE with selection.
