It’s gonna be a hot one this weekend. Embrace the heat at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival or a local race—you choose the distance—or escape with Emo Night or a punk film screening.

FRIDAY, JUNE 28

SCULPTURE SPOTLIGHT: Opening Friday, Ginny Ruffner: Reforestation of the Imagination includes traditional glass techniques, plus some augmented reality. Visitors will download an app to see the digital and IRL pieces of the installation combine. The exhibition runs through January. (Renwick Gallery, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m., FREE)

SIPS AND SOUNDS: Start your weekend with a free show. RAR Brewing hosts a tap takeover featuring free bluegrass performances from Old Town Flood and the Mosley Brothers. (Union Stage, 5 p.m.-9 p.m., free entry with RSVP)

THROWBACK: Though some of the seminal emo stars have lost their luster, the mall punk sounds of yesteryear live on. Lace up your Vans or Chucks, don a studded belt and rim your eyes: Emo Night Brooklyn takes over U Street Music Hall with a late night of classic Hot Topic-era cuts. SATURDAY, JUNE 29

GOAL!: If you’re sad to miss the Women’s World Cup action in France (and who isn’t?), console yourself with some stateside soccer. Head to Audi Field as D.C. United takes on Toronto FC. (Audi Field, 8 p.m., $30+)

UNITY: The second annual One Journey Festival honors refugees and others who have been displaced with performances across disciplines, including music, dance, art and storytelling. The day also features a marketplace of vendors and food trucks, plus presentations from charitable partners. (Washington National Cathedral, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., FREE)

FOLK YEAH: Though this year’s Smithsonian Folklife Festival is just two days, the annual event is still worth your time. This year focuses on the social power of music with a focus on the sound of the District. Events include a pop-up music preservation at Freer Plaza, go-go performances, and a celebration of Pete Seeger. (National Mall, 12 p.m.-10 p.m., FREE)

HOOPS HIGHLIGHTS: It’s a battle for the top of the WNBA as the No.1 Connecticut Sun takes on the No. 2 Washington Mystics. As if a promising matchup isn’t enough, Saturday’s game celebrates Pride with guest DJ Tezrah spinning. (Entertainment & Sports Arena, 2 p.m., $7+)
