Two D.C. firefighters were arrested and charged with assaulting police officers outside an &pizza on Connecticut Avenue NW over the weekend, court documents show.

They allegedly pushed, punched, kicked, and scratched several officers who had asked them to leave the area after receiving a call about disorderly conduct at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, the documents say.

NBC Washington was the first to report on the arrests.

Courtney Barnes and Kimberly Gorham have been placed on administrative leave following the incident, according to a statement from D.C. Fire and EMS spokesperson Doug Buchanan. Barnes has been with D.C. Fire since April 2007, while Gorham joined in 2016. Both firefighters were assigned to Engine Company 23 in Foggy Bottom, the statement says.

Barnes and Gorham were off duty and accompanied by one other person who was also arrested in the incident, according to court documents. The group at first complied when they were asked to leave, but soon came back to confront the officers, the police account says. Barnes allegedly shoved one of the officers in a chest, and yelled “I’m an EMT that works with y’all and I hope that y’all take a bullet to the head because I’m not going to revive you!” Barnes then allegedly punched an officer in the eye and kicked another in the knee as they tried to arrest him.

Gorham, meanwhile, allegedly scratched an officer on the neck and punched another one. Both firefighters complained of injuries after the scuffle and were transported to a nearby hospital, according to court documents.

Both have been charged with assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
