During Sunday’s D.C. United-Philadelphia Union match in the District, Philadelphia midfielder Alejandro Bedoya grabbed a microphone and called on Congress to do something in the wake of the weekend’s two devastating mass shootings.

After scoring one of Philly’s five goals on Sunday (to D.C. United’s one), Bedoya ran up to a mic on the field and yelled, “Hey Congress, do something! End gun violence now!”

Both Philadelphia Union head coach Jim Curtin and the Major League Soccer Players Association have issued their support for Bedoya, who has played for the U.S. national team. Later on Twitter, Bedoya listed some ideas lawmakers could take on: stricter background checks, red flag laws, gun purchase registries, closing loopholes for gun shows, and taxing ammunition.

Twenty people died in El Paso over the weekend, and another nine in Dayton, Ohio, after two separate mass shootings. Authorities believe the El Paso shooter authored a racist screed authorities found uploaded to online message board 8chan shortly before the shooting occurred, which complained of a “Hispanic invasion” of Texas.

There have been at least 18 deadly mass shootings in the U.S. so far this year.
