Update 8/13 3:45 p.m.:
Ward 1 Councilmember Brianne Nadeau’s office has termintated DaVon Lorenzo Fuller’s employment as a constituent services staffer after his arrest for allegedly shooting a gun outside a marijuana pop-up on August 3. “Although there is a legal process to determine guilt that remains ongoing, it’s important that we are able to carry on the business of the people of Ward 1, and we will move forward with bringing on new staff to do so,” said office spokesperson Tom Fazzini by email.

A constituent services staffer for Ward 1 Councilmember Brianne Nadeau has been arrested for allegedly firing his handgun in front of a marijuana pop-up earlier this month, per court documents.
Two unidentified men were apparently attempting to rob DaVon Lorenzo Fuller in front of the pop-up when both he and another man allegedly pulled out handguns and fired “indiscriminately in the block in the direction of 9 unidentified victims and damaged a vehicle parked on the scene,” police wrote in an affidavit.
Councilmember Nadeau’s office has placed Fuller on paid administrative leave as a result of his arrest and the felony charges for assault with a deadly weapon. “We are shocked and saddened by the situation, as it does not reflect the colleague we have come to know,” Nadeau’s office said in a statement. “We know that easy access to guns can turn petty arguments into potentially deadly confrontations.”
Nadeau introduced red flag law in 2017, which would seize firearms from people deemed “at risk.” The law was passed in 2018.
Daniel K. Dorsey, Fuller’s attorney, told the Washington Post that his client fired the gun in self-defense during a robbery.
Fuller worked in constituent services in Nadeau’s office, helping track and solve problems—from broken streetlights to trash collection—for the councilmember’s constituents. He makes $55,000 per year, according to government records.
The incident reportedly occurred shortly after 6 p.m. on August 3 in front of the marijuana pop-up on the 2200 block of 25th Place NE, after Fuller and another man carried bags from his BMW into the warehouse where the pop-up was taking place, per the police affidavit. Video provided to police showed two men get out of a white Jeep and try to rob Fuller and the other man, per the affidavit. Fuller and the other man then allegedly fired their guns down the block, court documents say.
Police found a dozen 9mm shell casings in the street after the shooting, the affidavit says. They used the tags on Fuller’s car to locate his address, and when they searched his home, they found a 9mm glock and ammunition matching the casings found in the street, police say.
Police are still searching for the other man they say was involved in the shooting.
