Oh, the things people will do for a chicken sandwich.
A video shared by the Metropolitan Police Department earlier this week shows a man making and stealing a sandwich from a Subway restaurant downtown.
The man broke into the restaurant in the 1700 block of G Street NW at 1:49 a.m. on Aug. 2, according to a police report from MPD.
Surveillance video shows the man casually walking past the counter and picking up a bag of chips. Deciding he needed more than a mere late-night snack, he leaped over the counter and fell to the floor before dusting himself off and grabbing a loaf of bread.
While the complete sandwich-making process was edited out of the surveillance video, police say the man made himself a chicken sandwich worth a whopping $8.49.
Minutes later, the man seemed to struggle as he tried to leave, kicking the front door, the police report says. Once he got it open, he was last seen walking out of the restaurant, taking his chicken sandwich with him.
The sandwich thief is wanted for burglary, and police are asking anyone with information on the crime to contact law enforcement.
