Art at night

The Hirshhorn kicks off its after-hours Autumn Evenings series with the first night of the exhibit Lee Ufan: Open Dimension. In a first for the museum, it’s a large-scale installation made specifically for the outdoor plaza. At this evening party, browse paintings and sculptures by the renowned Korean artist. The Korean Cultural Center will provide samples of Korean fried chicken, bibimbap, and soju for those 21 and older.

Yoga in full bloom

We all promised ourselves we would schedule in some self-care in 2019, and here’s your chance. Spend a morning in downward dog among the flowers at this weekly hourlong yoga session at the U.S. Botanic Gardens, hosted by With Love DC. Bring a mat and come flow with other yoga-lovers. Doors open at 10 a.m., so get there early to grab a spot.

Arias outside

Start your Saturday chilling in Meridian Hill Park, a.k.a. Malcolm X Park, listening to an Italian aria. This weekend is the return of the popular Opera Outside concerts hosted by Washington Concert Opera and Washington Parks & People, featuring a medley of songs from opera performers. And the free doesn’t end with the performance: Registering for the event will enter you in a raffle for free opera tickets for the 2019-2020 season.

Coffee and a show

Referred to by some as “Turkey’s Microangelo,” artist Hasan Kale specializes in making mini paintings on small objects like seeds, butterfly wings, and matches. On Saturday at the Tysons Corner location of Turkish Coffee Lady, Kale will conduct a live demo of his micro art. The event will be followed by a coffee workshop with gastronomy author Cenk Girginol, who will discuss the centuries-old tradition of Turkish coffee brewing. And if you need another caffeine fix on Sunday, the Turkish Coffee Lady truck will be on hand at the 2019 Turkish Festival.

Grab a blanket, bring some food, and enjoy the beautiful gardens with friends and family this weekend. Picking up some plants, art prints, or ice pops will cost some money, but enjoying a picnic on the grass or a tour of the estate is free.
