D.C. is losing yet another bar frequented by college students and young professionals with the closure of Glover Park’s Town Hall. The popular spot announced on Facebook this week that it will be closing its doors after this Sunday, September 29.
“We want to thank you our guests for all your support and all the good times over the years,” the post reads. “There have been many fond memories within these walls, and perhaps a few best left to posterity.”
Town Hall is just the latest closure in Glover Park, where some residents have been grumbling about the losses for more than a year. The beloved neighborhood Whole Foods is still closed and embroiled in a legal battle with the building owner, Surfside just announced it’s leaving for a new location in Tenleytown (as did Tennis Zone), a Rite Aid closed down recently, and a Starbucks is gone, as is a Bruegger’s Bagels, a Jimmy John’s, and a Noodles & Company location.
Town Hall has been in operation for 14 years. In their statement, the owners say they will work with the landlord “to help establish a new operator and ensure a good fit for the neighborhood. We truly think there is a great opportunity here in Glover Park, but it’s time for someone else to take up the reins.”
The comments on the goodbye post are full of reminiscing. “More memories than I can even write. 14 years later, TH is still the answer to how I know so many of the BEST friends I am lucky to have,” reads one. “I was lucky enough to live in walking distance for so long that it was like a second home,” says another.
Town Hall has been frequented by patrons of all stripes, but has a reputation as a (kind of fratty) college bar. It’s been a tough year for that ilk, with the closure of Sign of the Whale, Buffalo Billiards, and The Front Page.
But don’t fret too much. There are still places for you to go.
