A FASHIONABLE CRAFT: No framing necessary for this art. With handmade clothing, jewelry, and accessories from more than 70 designers, the Smithsonian Craft2Wear show is the place to find something uniquely yours. FRIDAY NIGHT FEST: Explore some of the best in arts and food that D.C. has to offer all in one place at the first Unite the District Fest. Friday’s 21+ food-forward fest features beverages from locals like ANXO, Denizens, and Terrapin, plus live music. The inaugural event continues on Saturday, and is open to all ages. NO CRYING IN COUNTRY: One of the most enduring artists of the original American Idol era, Carrie Underwood cemented her stadium status with hits like “Before He Cheats,” a karaoke classic if there’s ever been one. She’s joined by up-and-comers Maddie & Tae and Runaway June for her Cry Pretty tour. (Capital One Arena, 6 p.m. doors, 7 p.m. show, $49+)

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5

PROST: It’s the final weekend of Oktoberfest, and Wunder Garten is ending its seasonal celebration with sport. The morning kicks off with soccer as the FC Bayern Muchen Fan Club hosts a Bayern vs. Hoffenheim watch party; the day continues with Bavarian Olympics (categories include stein holding and stein sliding) at 4 p.m. (Wunder Garten, 9 a.m.-1 a.m., free entry)

WIDE OPEN SPACES: If you dream of rural roads with no traffic and plenty of space to run or ride, no need to escape D.C. this weekend. The first-ever D.C. Open Streets will shut down three miles of Georgia Ave NW to motor vehicle traffic, meaning pedestrians and cyclists are free to rule the road. Free fitness classes will run throughout the day, and other activities include an adult obstacle course, rock climbing wall, and moon bounces. (Georgia Ave NW, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., FREE)

SIDEWALK SOUNDS: Adams Morgan Porchfest turns the northwest neighborhood into a roving music fest with pop-up sets on stoops all over. Catch sessions at Sun Trust Plaza, the Potter’s House, HighRoad Hostel, Amsterdam Falalfelshop, the LINE DC, and residential addresses; stick around for specials at area restaurants all day. (Adams Morgan, 2 p.m.-6 p.m., FREE)

ALL CAPS: Despite the recent heat spell, hockey days are here, and the home team is seeking another Stanley Cup after bringing it home last summer. Saturday’s Washington Capitals home opener sees the team take on the Carolina Hurricanes. (Capital One Arena, 7 p.m., $62+)

SPACE SPOTLIGHT: This weekend’s Trek Fest is your last chance to see the Smithsonian’s model of the Star Trek Enterprise craft during museum renovations.
