Metro trains bypassed Capitol South Station for several hours Friday afternoon as police investigated the stabbing of a 15-year-old boy on an Orange Line train.

D.C. police said the victim was found unconscious and not breathing around 12:36 p.m.

Capitol South Station reopened as of approximately 5:35 p.m.

The victim is in critical condition and currently undergoing surgery following the incident, D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham said at a press conference. The victim fell at the fare gates, and three Metro employees are said to have attempted to help the boy.

A young female suspect is currently in custody and being questioned by police.

It’s currently undetermined where and if the suspect and victim attended school.

Metro Transit Police advised commuters to use the Federal Center SW or Eastern Market stations as alternatives during the Capitol South closure.

Friday’s stabbing comes just three days after a high school student was stabbed at the Congress Heights Metro station in Southeast D.C.
