Family fun at the museum

Find your inner Michelangelo this weekend at the American University Museum at the Katzen Center. The museum is having a Family Day offering music, a scavenger hunt, a tour and art projects inspired by current exhibits. With colorful abstract art and lush oil paintings on display, expect activities to be just as vibrant. Register online at Eventbrite. Rooftop days at Union Market

Catch golden hour at Union Market this Saturday. Each weekend, the market will open its rooftop—which has previously hosted professional tennis matches and interactive art—from 8 a.m. to sunset, and visitors are welcome to picnic up top, enjoy the city view, and play games. The Rooftop is kicking off its fall programming with live music at 3 p.m. by the local band Columbia Breakers (check out their new single “’97 Love” before you go). Next week, look forward to a cardio dance session by 305 Fitness.

Learn local LGBTQ history

At the D.C. Public Library’s Washingtoniana archive, you can honor LGBTQ History Month by learning more about the lavender scare, the first gay U.S. Congressman, and the LGBTQ rights movement in D.C. At Saturday’s Research 101 event, learn how to take advantage of the archive’s wealth of documents, peruse articles from the library’s special collections, and learn about the city’s LGBTQ history.

A local farm-to-table night

THEARC Farm is an urban farm in Ward 8 that grows and sells affordable produce for residents east of the river. Attend Taste of Harvest to sample their produce, learn about their farm, and enjoy music. Guests can see a cooking demonstration and even learn how to plant garlic. Watch performances from Howard Gospel Choir, Washington Ballet, Dupont Brass, and more. Then finish off the night with s’mores at 7 p.m.
Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus, Saturday 4 p.m.-8 p.m.

Wine down

Test out your palate and maybe find your new favorite wine at Woodlawn Press Winery this weekend. This Alexandria winery has free tastings Thursday through Sunday every week. Husband-and-wife duo Andrew Rosado and Bonnie Evangelista opened the winery, which sources grape juice from the West Coast and ferments it onsite, in July. This weekend, the Woodlawn will be sampling its latest, a spiced apple wine appropriately named Fall’n for Apples.
