MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4

TASTE TEST: Joselito Casa de Comidas will host a special taste wine and food tasting event on Monday evening. The wines will come from winemaker Isaac Fernandez, who has spent decades exploring the ins and outs of Spanish wines alongside his uncle, who worked at Vega Sicilia (one of the finest winemakers in the region). A five-course meal will be paired around one of Fernandez’s wines and the man himself will be in the building to talk about each of them. (Joselito Casa de Comidas, 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m., $110)

U UP: The popularU Up? podcast will visit D.C. for a live taping of the show. Hosted by Betches Media’s co-founder Jordana Abraham and comedian Jared Freid, the duo provides all sorts of insights into the hellish landscape of modern dating. Join them for an evening of dating app makeovers, text inspiration, and more. (The Lincoln Theatre, 6:30 p.m., $35)

MAGICAL: The Washington National Opera will present a performance of The Magic Flute. With music from Mozart and production inspired by the work and art of author/illustrator Maurice Sendak, this fairy tale opera details a quest for love and truth as the young prince Tamino embarks on a journey to save the day. The opera runs through Nov. 23. (The Kennedy Center, 7 p.m., $25 – $299)

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5

WINE DOWN: Those who love both wine and supporting women-led businesses won’t want to miss Shop Made in DC’s Wine Tasting 101 event. SommStock founder Veronica Kunkel will host fellow female wine experts Marcelle Folk (Wine Key Experience), Emily Zeigenfuse (She Collective DC) for a wine tasting that will detail how you can support local women winemakers, sommeliers, women-owned businesses and more. UNDER THE SEA: Musical fans who were planning on checking out ABC’s production of The Little Mermaid Live! might also want to hit up Shaw Tavern on Tuesday night for a live watch party. The performance will star John Stamos, Queen Latifah, Auli’i Cravalho, and [checks notes] Shaggy. Be sure to get there early for a karaoke party featuring songs from the original Disney movie. VILLAINOUS: If you like Disney but aren’t in the mood for a musical, the weekly trivia contest at Pinstripes will test your memory on Disney’s most famous villains. FOOD FIGHT: The 16th annual Capital Food Fight brings the biggest and best food competition in the District to The Anthem. With a panel of star-studded judges that’ll include Maneet Chauchan, Spike Mendelsohn, Ryan Zimmerman, Andrew Zimmern, Tom Colicchio, Carla Hall, and José Andrés, you’ll get the chance to test delectable bites from more than 80 of D.C.’s finest restaurants. (The Anthem, 6 p.m., $325)

WEEPY: In partnership with SirusXM’s Coffeehouse station, Sixth & I will host musicians Joshua Radin and husband-and-wife duo The Weepies. Folk music lovers won’t want to miss out on this one, as all the acts will bring their distinctive brand of Americana to the District. (Sixth & I, 7:30 p.m., $38.50)

STORYTIME: A celebration of storytelling, the Stumble & Bubble cocktail party will feature writers Vivian Olodun (Stumbling Through Adulthood) Stacey Ferguson (Blogalicious), Deran Young (Black Therapists Rock), and Morgan Owen (Her Curvy Girl Fitness) in conversation at Busboys and Poets on Wednesday night. Attendees will hear all about the benefits of self-expression through writing, as well garnering tips and tricks to better share your story with the world.(Busboys and Poets, 6 p.m.-9 p.m., $35)

POP UP PATCH: Just because Halloween has come and gone doesn’t mean that it’s time to stow away those pumpkins. Dacha gets it: They’re celebrating with a Pumpkin Palooza. Not only will you get a chance to take home a pumpkin of your own, but the beer garden will have a selection of pumpkin-flavored beers on tap to help you properly celebrate. HIP HOP’D: Those who love yoga, but wish that there was a bit more energy behind it will want to check out the Hip Hop Yoga class on Thursday night. From the same group that brought you Trap Yoga, this class is meant for beginners and practiced yogis alike, all set to classic and current hip hop tunes. MAGIC TEXT:Harry Potter and the Sacred Text is a deep dive podcast that explores the beloved book series as if it was, well, a sacred text. Join hosts Vanessa Zoltan and Casper ter Kuile for a live podcast discussion around modern fiction’s most beloved magical world. (Sixth & I, 7 p.m.,$28)

BAKED, WIRED: Half the fun of fall is getting to try all the tasty treats that come with the arrival of sweater weather. Those who love the offerings at Baked & Wired is arguably should check out their specialty tasting event, where you’ll have a chance to do a thorough taste test on the shop’s fall food and beverage menu—including flavors like pumpkin, chai, apple, and dark chocolate. GREEN THUMB: Whether you’ve got a mini botanical garden in your apartment or are a plant lover who can’t keep one alive for more than a few weeks, aspiring green thumbs should check out Novel South Capitol’s Q&A session with Hilton Carter. The author of Wild at Home will be in conversation with Lily Cox, owner of plant shop Rewild: Both have enough expert advice to turn you into a budding botanist in no time flat.
