Check out a pop-up from an anticipated Shaw eatery, cozy up with hot cocktails, or party with a tiki-inspired Christmas bar.
Black Friday with Oyster Oyster
A family-style meal may be the last thing on your mind the day after Thanksgiving. Anyone with an appetite though will want to consider the Friday lunch pop-up from Oyster Oyster, an upcoming Shaw restaurant focused on sustainable, plant-based dishes and briny bivalves. The four-course oyster pan roast well be held at Estadio with sides including slow-roasted oyster mushrooms, a kale and sunflower seed Caesar salad and homemade sourdough bread with seaweed butter. Drinks will be sold a la carte. Reservations can be made online. (1520 14th St. NW, Friday, 12 p.m.-3 p.m., $30).
A Truly cocktail test
Embrace the hard seltzer craze on Monday with a Truly-branded cocktail competition at tasting at Chinatown’s Crimson Whiskey Bar. Participating bars include Buffalo and Bergen, Coconut Club, Roy Boys, and others from around D.C. Tickets include unlimited tastings, light bites, and the opportunity to vote for a winner. Discounted beers and other drinks will be sold as well. (627 H St. NW, Monday, 7 p.m.-10 p.m., $25)
D.C., meet après ski
As it is with many sports, the warming food and drinks enjoyed after a long day of skiing can be the best part of the outing. At the posh Conrad Hotel, enjoy the spoils of a day on the mountain without leaving the city. Cozy up to an outdoor fire with a blanket and a thermos for two full of hot buttered rum or a twist on a hot toddy with Armagnac and Jamaican rum. French cheese and charcuterie, a duck “croque madame,” and s’mores complete the alpine winter vibe. (950 New York Ave. NW, through February, cocktails $14-$20 and food $11-$28)
A thanksgiving snack with a Lebanese twist
Through the end of the month, the street food-inspired Muncheez is embracing its Lebanese background with a turkey crepe filled with mozzarella and a dusting of za’atar. It’s a handheld and low-mess way to get in a Thanksgiving fix on the go, or to ease off cravings after a light night out with friends. Have a very tiki Christmas
If you pass by the line at Miracle on 7th Street, head to Archipelago for a dose of island cheer this season. Its “Sippin’ Santa’s Surf Shack” pop-up will serve up boozy cocktails and tropical decor that will chase away seasonal chills or holiday blues. Drinks are the brainchild of mind tiki bartending legend Beachbum Berry. Among the festive choices: Grinch Grog, Hawaiian Milk Punch, and the Kringle Colada. Shilling Canning Company does brunch
A rotating weekend menu of mid-Atlantic brunch plates has launched at Shilling Canning Company in Navy Yard. Chef Reid Shilling plans dishes like maple-glazed pork belly with scrambled eggs, Maryland crab Benedict, and a selection of homemade pastries from cinnamon buns to cider doughnuts. Sip on mimosas made with D.C.-based Supreme Core cider or a Bloody Mary riff with Civic Vodka. (360 Water St. SE, Saturdays and Sundays starting at 11 a.m., a la carte)
