The regular red D.C. Circulator bus has transformed once again into a festive ride called the Winter Wonder Bus.
One dollar will get riders on the Winter Wonder Bus, which has a friendly gingerbread boy and girl waving in front of gingerbread Capitol Building, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, and White House on its exterior. (Sensing a pattern? Twitter users chose the theme “A Gingerbread Holiday” in a Twitter poll.) Inside, it’s sporting candy cane poles, garlands, and ornaments.
Starting in 2017, the District Department of Transportation has decorated a Circulator bus annually in honor of the holidays.
The bus will be on display at District holiday events like Light up the Wharf, Dupont Circle Holiday Market, and EventsDC Cozy Christmas in Anacostia, according to a DDOT press release, and will also ride various Circulator routes during the month of December.
Riders who post of a selfie on the bus and tag D.C. Circulator on social media will be in the running to win a $25 SmarTrip card.
And the Winter Wonder Bus isn’t the only holiday offering from DDOT. Like last year, the Circulator has set up a special bus route over to the National Zoo so riders can visit ZooLights. That route, which began last weekend, will go between the Woodley Park Metro Station and the National Zoo on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. until the holiday exhibit wraps up.
