Crews are gearing up to try and finish construction of Phase Two of the Silver Line extension in time for a September opening, and it’s going to mean some continuous inconveniences for weekend Metro riders.

Just like the past few weekends, the Wiehle-Reston East Station will close again order as crews work on the expansion project. The work (and the closures) will continue most weekends through February 2020, per Metro. Free shuttle buses will be available between the Spring Hill and Wiehle-Reston East stations.

Also this weekend, Red Line trains will single track between Friendship Heights and Medical Center stations. Between Van Ness and Glenmont, extra trains will run every eight minutes.

Trains on the Orange, Blue, Yellow, and Green lines will run regular service.

Here’s more from WMATA:

Red Line

  • Trains every 16 minutes.
  • Additional trains every 8 minutes between Van Ness and Glenmont.
  • Due to installation of cable/communication equipment to support cellular service in tunnels and new radio system, trains will single track between Friendship Heights and Medical Center.

Orange Line

  • Regular service, trains every 12-15 minutes

Silver Line

  • Trains operate regular weekend intervals (every 12-15 minutes) between Spring Hill and Largo Town Center.
  • Due to Silver Line phase 2 tie-in, free shuttle buses replace Silver Line trains between Spring Hill and Wiehle-Reston East.
  • Wiehle-Reston East station will be closed.
  • This work is ongoing and will continue most weekends through February 2020.

Blue Line

  • Regular service, trains every 12-15 minutes.

Yellow Line

  • Regular service, trains every 12-15 minutes.

Green Line

  • Regular service, trains every 12-15 minutes.
