HAPPY CHRISTMAS, HARRY: Nothing says Christmastime quite like the sounds of wizard rock originators Harry & the Potters’ Yule Ball 2019. For the tenth annual iteration of the event, the duo is joined by Potter Puppet Pals, Ashley Trix & the WZRDs, and Hawthorn & Holly; $5 of each ticket benefits the Harry Potter Alliance. JOYEUX NOEL: The French Embassy Holiday Gala & Magnificent Viennese Ball begins with instruction led by Herb & Carol Traxler, so you’ve got no excuse for stumbling over your feet when the Salon Orchestra of Washington begins to play. FESTIVAL FETE: Explore the winter traditions of Russia without a passport at the annual Russian Winter Festival. The event, which continues through Sunday, features music from the Samovar Russian Folk Music Ensemble, a winter hat workshop and a visit from Grandfather Frost—a.k.a. Russian Santa. LET’S DANCE: Set in 1882 Georgetown with appearances from George Washington and King George III, the Washington Ballet’s Nutcracker draws inspiration from the District for its take on the Christmastime tradition.
