The holidays are finally here! If you’re not rushing about this week and are in active need of things to do with family or friends, we’ve got you covered with this week’s events guide. Go see cats (we’re not talking about the movie!), hit a Christmas Eve dance party, indulge in holiday dinners, and much more below.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 23
CATS: If you’re looking for feline fun this holiday, I would highly suggest you skip going to see any cinematic celebrations and go straight to the source: D.C. cat cafe, Crumbs & Whiskers, will have its halls decked out to resemble that of a winter wonderland beginning this week. Oh, and if that’s not enough, each of the fine furry friends will have a festive holiday sweater for maximum adorableness. (Crumb & Whiskers, times vary, $35)
BANNED: Despite its longstanding legacy as a beloved children’s book series, Harry Potter wasn’t without its share of controversy upon its initial release. Fearing the repercussions of a story about “magic,” libraries across the U.S. didn’t hesitate to ban the book. Join University of Connecticut MA/PhD student Tolonda Henderson at the Southeast Neighborhood Library as she talks through not only what got the books banned to begin with, but how the concept of banning materials is also a central theme in the endgame of the series itself. (Southeast Neighborhood Library, 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., FREE with registration)
YULE SHOOT YOUR EYE OUT: The holidays aren’t complete without viewing a certain selection of classic films—and A Christmas Story is absolutely one of those classics. Burger restaurant Slash Run in Petworth will host a public screening of the beloved movie that’s totally free and open to the public. (Slash Run, 9 p.m., FREE)
ORCHESTRAL: A tradition unlike any other, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra will perform at Capital One Arena on Monday. Bringing their unique spin to holiday songs both new and old, it’s a great family-friendly activity that’s a great way of getting even the biggest skeptics into the holiday spirit. (Capital One Arena, 3 p.m., $49.50)
MORE: Light Yards 2019 (The Yards DC, 6 p.m. – 10 p.m., FREE), Moonshot Studio (Kennedy Center, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., FREE), Ultimate Dreidel Spin-off & Game Night (Board Room DC, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., $10)

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 24
UGLY: If your family doesn’t have a standard set of traditions for Christmas Eve or if you’re looking to just spice things up, City Tap is hosting an Ugly Sweater Brunch midday on Tuesday. Break out the tackiest sweater you can find and get rewarded, as the best sweater-wearer will walk away with a gift card. Plus, Flying Dog Brewery will be on site to take over the taps with a few special selections. (City Tap Penn Quarter, 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m., FREE to attend)

Leave the hassle of food prep behind and indulge in both pasta and aquatic selections including roasted Maine lobster, Nantucket Bay scallops, and much more. (RPM Italian, 12 p.m. – 10 p.m., $85)
MORE: It’s a Wonderful Life (National Museum of American History, 3:15 p.m. – 5 p.m., $10), A Family Christmas at the Kennedy Center (The Kennedy Center, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m., FREE), Activist Trivia (The Outrage, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m., FREE)

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 25
FINE DINE: Rather not have to cook anything on Christmas Day? The Sonoma Cellar in Alexandria is offering a Prix Fixe menu for dinner, including mouth-watering selections like ham, turkey, short-rib, and rib-eye roast. Treat yourself or a loved one to the gift of not having to do dishes. (Sonoma Cellar, 5 p.m. – 10 p.m., $30)
JAZZY JAMS: For those who are able to roll themselves off the couch or away from their new toys long enough to get out and about on Wednesday night will want to give the Kennedy Center’s All-Star Christmas Day Jazz Jam a look. A Millennium Stage tradition, the completely free event will feature performances from drummer Lenny Robinson, trumpeters Robert Redd and Tom Williams, bassist James King, and vocalist Delores King Williams. (The Kennedy Center, 6 p.m. – 7 p.m., FREE)
BIKING: For those members of the tribe not celebrating the holiday on Wednesday, Edlavitch DCJCC will saddle up and roll out for a day of service called “Hanukkah Harry’s Reindeer Ride.” Handmade holiday greetings will be delivered by bike to some of D.C.’s finest first responders. Yoga ambassadors Rebecca Laubner and Alex Garza will get your body in motion and off to a great post-festive start. (lululemon Georgetown, 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m., FREE with registration)
NOBODY’S PERFECT: As far as classic comedies go, there are few better than Some Like It Hot. The 1959 comedy from director Billy Wilder helped to make Marilyn Monroe a household name, while providing ample sequences for Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis to show off their legendary comedic chops. Arthouse movie theater Suns Cinema is airing the screwball comedy on its second floor. (Suns Cinema, 8 p.m., $12)
GAME ON: Whether you received a new board game for the holiday that you’ll be eager to try or just want to show off your prowess of a beloved classic, don’t miss Labyrinth’s Board Game night. Feel free to bring your own favorite or choose from staples like Catan, Carcassonne, or Ticket to Ride. (Labyrinth Game Shop, 6 p.m. – 10 p.m., FREE)
EXTRAVAGANZA: If you’ve made it to the end of this week and somehow aren’t tired of Christmas carols, Grammy Award-Winner Ben Williams will perform a selection of holiday tunes at the Hamilton Live. With training across a variety of different musical backgrounds, this concert is an extravagant celebration of all things holiday and holiday music. (The Hamilton Live, 8 p.m., $20)
