The Choral Arts Society of Washington will spread a little last-minute holiday cheer with its Christmas Eve performance, called “Songs of the Season.” Mezzo-soprano Kristina Lewis is the featured soloist for this performance, which features both the Choral Arts Chorus and the Youth Choir singing such traditional carols as “Carol of the Bells” and “Silent Night.” Kennedy Center. 2 p.m. show. $15-$72. WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 25
For the 21st year in a row, the Kennedy Center has opened its doors on Dec. 25 for the All-Star Christmas Day Jazz Jam, led by piano player and vibraphonist Chuck Redd and featuring drummer Lenny Robinson, trumpet players Robert Redd and Tom Williams, bassist James King, and singer Delores King Williams. The group will riff on holiday standards, of course, and this year, the performance takes place in the Concert Hall, not the Millennium Stage. 6 p.m. FREE. All ages, venue accessible.
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 26
Want to keep the holiday spirits up? D.C. native bassist Ben Williams throws his annual “Holiday Musical Extravaganza” at The Hamilton. The Grammy-winning musician is also prepping a new album soul and hip-hop-infused album, I Am A Man, due Feb. 7. 6:30 p.m. doors. 8 p.m. show. $20-$45. All ages, accessible venue.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 27
This year, give the gift of GWAR. The legendary Richmond metal band kicks off its “Use Your Collusion” holiday tour at the 9:30 Club, and the costumed act promises to “free you from the holiday misery” with a wild, (fake) blood-soaked show. 8 p.m. show. $25. All ages, accessible venue.
New Orleans native PJ Morton self-released his latest album of soulful R&B, Paul, in August. The Grammy-winning keyboardist and singer has been working on his solo career of late but he’ll soon rejoin his bandmates in Maroon 5 for the pop act’s 2020 tour. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 28
Every year, Baltimore-born Yellow Dubmarine reunites to play a December show at The Hamilton, turning hits by The Beatles into dub and reggae songs, which works better than it has any right to. The band features D.C. guitarist Jonathan Sloane, who has logged time touring with Cris Jacobs Band and Anders Osborne. 6:30 p.m. doors. 8 p.m. show. $18-$25.50. All ages, accessible venue.
There’s only a handful of shows left at Gypsy Sally’s before the Georgetown club closes to make way for condos next weekend, and two local bands with close ties to the venue will help send it off. Funk and soul band Aztec Sun, which has played the venue frequently over the years, headlines after an opening set from Gordon Sterling and the People, a psychedelic soul act that made its debut at this very venue in 2018. 7 p.m. doors. 8:30 p.m. show. $20. 21+, accessible venue.

It’s been 15 years since Fantasia won American Idol with her impressive, wide-ranging voice, kicking off a Grammy-winning career in R&B. The North Carolina native released her latest album, the personal Sketchbook, earlier this year. While her show at The Theater at MGM National Harbor is technically sold out, it’s still possible to score resale tickets. 8 p.m. Sold out, but resale tickets available. All ages, accessible venue.
The Roots drastically cut back on touring and recording in the last decade, choosing to focus instead on their job as house band on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. But it seems like every year around this time, the legendary Roots crew returns to the area for a rare live show, this time at the Kennedy Center. 8 p.m. show. $49-$149. All ages, accessible venue.
MONDAY, DECEMBER 30
New York gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello will take up residence at the 9:30 Club for two nights, including New Year’s Eve, just two years after the raucous live act played on Dec. 31 at the Anthem with Thievery Corporation. 7 p.m. doors on Dec. 30; $35. 9 p.m. doors on Dec. 31; $55. DJ the White Panda (formerly a duo, now a solo artist) performs while wearing a giant panda mask, remixing songs by such artists as Bebe Rexha, The White Stripes and Imagine Dragons and mashing up others (including one track that blends Notorious B.I.G. and Tom Petty).
