Congrats on making it through another year. As we bring 2019 to a close and look forward to 2020, there’s more than enough events happening around town to help you ring in the year in style, as well as musicals, a basketball game, a movie screening, and much more.
MONDAY, DECEMBER 30
JERSEY: If you’ve still somehow got family in town from the holidays (god bless ya if you do) and are looking for something to do, the National Theatre is still hosting showings of Jersey Boys. The musical charts the career of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and is full of delightful tunes (and swearing). (National Theatre, 7:30 p.m., $54)
EVE EVE: New Year’s Eve can often be a bit of a mixed bag, as it is frequently burdened with expectations. If you’d rather avoid the celebration altogether, you might be interested in Franklin Hall’s New Year’s Eve “Eve” party. A $10 entry fee will go to support the DC Human Rescue Alliance. Celebrate the new year a day early and avoid all the chaos, for a good cause! (Franklin Hall, 8:30 p.m.-1 a.m., $10)
ZARDS: The Washington Wizards will face off against the Miami Heat on Monday night. The Wizards have been struggling quite a bit this season and will certainly have a difficult matchup against a Heat team that’s been firing on all cylinders over the last few weeks. Attendees can expect a high-scoring affair. (Capital One Arena, 7 p.m., $20)
MORE: The Fez & Moustache Party (DC9 Nightclub, 11 p.m., free entry), Rum Fire lands at Archipelago! (Archipelago Tiki Bar, 6 p.m., free entry), Chess on Tap (Board Room, 6:30 p.m., free entry)

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 31
BIG NIGHT: Those looking to really make a show of New Year’s Eve will want to attend what’s being billed as one of the nation’s biggest NYE parties. Gaylord National Hotel & Resort in National Harbor will host a party that includes ten different party areas including seven dance floors and ten party bands/DJs. Booze, of course, is included. (Gaylord National Hotel & Resort, 9 p.m. – 3 a.m., $129.99)
I SPY: Don’t want to make the trek out to Maryland? Washington Plaza Hotel will throw its 18th annual spy-themed New Year’s party. Slip-on your best tux for a great Bond impression or get your The Americans couple cosplay ready for a thrilling and adventurous NYE party. (Washington Plaza Hotel, 9 p.m.-2 a.m., $110)
ROAR: Hitting 2020, of course, hearkens back to the now century-old roaring 20s, which means that there are plenty of Gatsby-type parties out there. Our favorite of the bunch is easily the Roaring 20’s New Year’s Eve Party at the Watergate hotel. Included in the cost of your ticket is an open bar, buffet, midnight champagne toast, a 1920’s themed photo booth, and the sounds of a live DJ. (Watergate Hotel, 9:30 p.m. – 1 a.m., $195)
HOTEL PARTY: Finally, Hotel Monaco’s Dirty Habit will open their stunning space for a NYE party that’s full of glitz and glamour. All the standards of any good NYE party are present (champagne toast, open bar, live DJ) Come ring in the New Year right in the heart of downtown D.C. (Dirty Habit, 9 p.m.-2 a.m., $65)
MORE: Andrew Mellon Auditorium New Year’s Eve DC Gala (Andrew W Mellon Auditorium, 9 p.m.-2 a.m., $139), ChurchKey’s 2020 New Year’s Eve Party (ChurchKey, 9 p.m.-2 a.m., $105)

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 1
HANGOVER: Listen, we know there’s a good chance you’re going to spend most of Wednesday hungover, so why bother cooking anything? That’s the philosophy behind Teddy and Bully New Year’s Day Pajama Brunch. As evidenced by its name, feel free to show up in your PJs and let the staff at Teddy’s attend to your hangover with bottomless bloody Marys and mimosas, as well as an omelet station and waffle stand. (Teddy and the Bully Bar, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., prices vary)
DRAG ME: If you want to keep the party rolling, be sure to check out Shaw Tavern’s New Year’s Day drag brunch. It’ll get your 2020 off to a roaring start. (Shaw Tavern, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., $16)
NIGHTMARE FUEL: If you didn’t get enough dancing at a New Year’s Eve party, Echostage will host DJ NGHTMRE on Wednesday night. The EDM producer has had singles drop this year featuring artists like Gunna, ASAP Ferg, and Zhu. (Echostage, 9 p.m., $30)
MORE: Lyfe Jennings – New Year’s Day Broken Resolutions Party (City Winery, 6 p.m.-9:30 p.m., $40), New Year’s Day 2020 Hangover Hog Roast (Jack Rose, 3 p.m. – 10 p.m., $15), Kazaxé (Kennedy Center – Millennium Stage, 6 p.m.-7 p.m., FREE)
THURSDAY, JANUARY 2
GET THE AXE: A Baked Joint will kick off a new year’s worth of movie screenings with the 1993 cult classic So I Married An Axe Murderer. The Mike Myers and Nancy Travis vehicle is known for its pitch dark sense of humor. As always, the shop will have plenty of pizza and beers on hand should you get a killer … craving for something while you watch. (A Baked Joint, 7:30 p.m.-10 p.m., FREE)
TALENTED: For those in search of a good laugh, comedian and America’s Got Talent semi-finalist Jackie Fabulous will perform at the DC Comedy Loft. AFTER DARK: January’s Phillips After 5 is all about the 20s. With cabaret and electro-swing tunes from DJ Chou Chou, slip on your best flapper attire and sip the night away with champagne cocktails and tastings from Green Hat Gin. (Phillips Collection, 5 p.m.-8:30 p.m., $12)
SINGALONG: Those looking to get their sing on will want to visit Ugly Mug on Thursday night for a night of live karaoke. The weekly event offers a chance for you to show off your pipes, so get your favorite song ready and prepare to wow your friends and/or the crowd. (Ugly Mug, 8 p.m.-1 a.m., FREE)
