A classic mash-up
The Folger Shakespeare Library is all 70s this winter for its production of The Merry Wives of Windsor. This weekend, some of those local actors will be performing another kitschy production, The Bardy Bunch, a comedy by Stephen Garvey that tells the story of The Partridge Family and The Brady Bunch after their cancellation by ABC. Things might get ugly. The event is free, but guests are encouraged to reserve a seat.
Folger Shakespeare Library, Friday, 6 p.m.
Learn to code
Saturday’s forecast isn’t looking great, but The Flatiron School is offering 6 free hours of coding lessons to drown out any rainy day blues. You don’t need any experience to attend the workshop (which includes a catered lunch). All you need is a laptop, and Flatiron School instructors will walk you through the basics of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. By Monday, maybe you’ll be able to impress your boss when they ask what you did over the weekend.
WeWork White House, Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Craft for critters
DC Brau will be partnering with local volunteer group Crafting for Critters this weekend to make products for animals rescued from Australian wildfires. Various materials and tools will be provided to make birds nest, joey pouches, and bat wraps. If crafts aren’t your thing, you’re welcome to help iron, sort, and organize finished products. All ages are welcome, but individuals under 21 must be accompanied by an adult. And of course, DC Brau will have a food truck and plenty of beer for purchase on site.
DC Brau Brewing Company, Saturday, 12 p.m.-5 p.m.
Dupont Underground’s first art market
Amid last fall’s news that a closure might be in the cards this year, Dupont Underground is hosting its first annual “Below Zero Arts Market,” inviting more than 50 local vendors to sell products from jewelry to handmade books. Check out a list of some the vendors if you’re looking to spend, or simply browse and explore the Dupont Underground space for free.
Dupont Underground, Saturday 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Lunar New Year Parade
The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association is calling this year’s parade the biggest and most diverse yet. Lion and dragon dances, Kung Fu demonstrations, and live music will be ringing through the streets of downtown D.C. celebrating the 4718 Chinese New Year, Year of the Rat. The parade will begin at 6th and Eye Streets NW, and wrap up at the Gallery Place Metro station. Review the parade route and decide where you’d like to park yourself for the celebration.
Begins at 6th and Eye St. NW, Sunday, 2 p.m.
