February continues with a number of ways to stay warm, including barrel-aged pours and yet another après ski pop up experience. This week’s calendar also features two fundraisers dedicated to helping Australian wildlife affected by the recent wildfires.
MGM Roast Beef returns
After a summer electrical fire forced its closure, D.C. sandwich institution MGM Roast Beef will reopen this Friday with both old and new menu items. Classics like hand-carved roast turkey, brisket, and top round join options like a smashburger, steak and cheese, Reuben, and a salmon Caesar wrap. The first 25 guests in line at 11 a.m. on Friday will receive a free sandwich. On Saturday, all MPD, EMS and DCFD first responders will get a free sandwich and a drink. (905 Brentwood Ave. NE, Friday and Saturday, a la carte)
Après ski at Wunder Garten
Cozy into February with Wunder Garten‘s annual après ski pop up, complete with beers, cocktails, fire pits and Alpine-inspired art. The indoor loge will be outfitted with warm blankets, couches and games for spreading out and hanging out. Free whiskey tastings are on the schedule for Fridays and Saturdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and DJs will spin late-night parties. Food trucks will rotate on-site through the month. (1101 First St. NE, weekends Friday through February 29)
Barrel-aged flights at Denizens
Spend Saturday evening sipping some of Denizens Brewing Company’s most in-demand brews, including several barrel-aged selections. The brewery’s Silver Spring location has curated a special flight including Chapless Horseman, a bourbon barrel-aged Russian imperial stout and Call Waiting, a barrel-aged wee heavy. Afterwards, grab one of the first ever to-go bottles of either for $9 a piece. (1115 East-West Highway, Saturday from 6 p.m.-9 p.m., a la carte)
Wine and bites for Australia
Send some love to wildlife affected by the Australian wildfires with a fundraising party this Sunday at Equinox. The event will benefit the World Wildlife Fund-Australia and NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc. Standard admission comes with a glass of beer or wine along with passed plant-based appetizers and a live cover band. VIP tickets get access to an open bar. (818 Connecticut Ave. NW, Sunday, 5 p.m.-7 p.m., $50-$75)
Bottomless tapas for the Oscars
The Academy Awards is popular viewing, and its three-hour length leaves lots of time for snacks and drinks. Instead of themed bites, Boqueria Dupont Circle is going bottomless with free-flowing sangria, beer, and wine along with a variety of Spanish tapas. Bites include crispy fried patatas bravas, garlic shrimp, chocolate-stuffed churros and plenty more. Contact the restaurant for reservations, or try another one of these Oscar parties around town. (1837 M St. NW, Sunday, 7 p.m., $49)
Happy hour for a good cause
Fast-casual Immigrant Food is expanding its advocacy-focused menu with new weekday happy hour specials. Chef Enrique Limardo (Seven Reasons) is offering up appetizers including vegetarian nachos with spicy berbere sauce, Taj Mahal chicken sliders, and harissa hummus. Wines by the glass and bottle, as well as beers, will also be discounted. (1701 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, weekdays from 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m., $5-$10)
The G.O.A.T. goes for Australia
Over in Clarendon, The G.O.A.T. Sports Bar is also lending its hand to support wildlife affected by the Australian wildfires. Anyone who comes by Tuesday night can make a donation to Animals Australia and receive two drink tickets. (3028 Wilson Blvd., Tuesday, 7 p.m.-2 a.m., $10)
