Update 2:43 p.m.: Well, here you have it, folks. Twitter has brought us to the bottom of Harry Styles’ mysterious visit to D.C. The pop star was here to perform a Tiny Desk concert at NPR’s headquarters, per ecstatic tweets from reporters in the room.

NPR Music regularly invites artists to perform in its office. Styles also explored some other areas of the building.

Original: Stan Twitter erupted into a frenzy on Monday night after photos and a video circulated of former boy band star turned solo heartthrob Harry Styles in a Dupont Circle Barry’s Bootcamp fitness studio.

Once a member of the British boy band One Direction, which rose to international stardom after coming together on music competition show The X-Factor, Styles released his first solo album in 2017. Earlier this month, Styles made headlines with a moving performance of a ballad off his sophomore solo album at the BRIT Awards in London.

His visit to the District was first made public by a fan whose friend took an evening class at Barry’s Bootcamp, a boutique workout that counts celebrities like Styles, Kim Kardashian, and David Beckham among its fans. When the tweeter’s friend asked Styles for a photo after the class, he politely declined, according to her tweet. Pictures and videos then surfaced of Styles in the studio grabbing a smoothie.

Styles doesn’t have any upcoming performances scheduled in the D.C. area—his next international tour isn’t set to begin until April. One popular theory is that he is in town to perform at NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert. NPR has not responded to a request for comment. Whatever the reason for the visit, it has D.C. fans losing their minds.
