Six hundred primaries and at least 3,000 presidential debates are behind us (at least it feels that way), which means Super Tuesday is upon us. After Tuesday, more than one third of the delegates for the Democratic National Convention will be accounted for and winners will likely be declared over several hours, so yes, this is a big one. Here’s where to belly up to a bar and bite your nails with a beer in hand.
Cuba Libre Restaurant and Rum Bar
801 9th St. NW
The Chinatown bar will be showing the Super Tuesday results all day at the bar, and offering happy hour prices on food throughout. Tapas dishes including tuna ceviche, coconut crab fritters, chicken croquetas, and yuca fries, are $6 each. The happy hour drink menu—including a variety of sweet caipirinhas priced at $6— is available from 4 p.m.-7 p.m.
Hook Hall
3400 Georgia Ave. NW
This cavernous Park View bar-slash-event space-slash-sometimes farmers market thinks the returns might go down easier with a little comedy first. Hook Hall will host a free standup show featuring local comics at 6:30 p.m., and screen the results after the laughs have died down.
The Outrage
1722 14th St. NW
The activist hub on 14th Street is showing the returns on a big screen, and will have beer and wine available. The event is presented in partnership with A Tour of Her Own, which promotes women’s history in D.C.
Number Nine
1435 P St. NW
The Logan Circle bar is airing the returns, but also promises some of its screens will display some “distractions.” Happy hour runs through 9 p.m.
Red Derby
3718 14th St. NW
At this Columbia Heights dive, the returns come with half-off tacos (Happy Taco Tuesday!) and special prices on Tom Collins and tequila mule cocktails.
Shaw’s Tavern
520 Florida Ave. NW
The Shaw pub has been in the political rubbernecking space since 2017, when crowds lined up outside its doors to watch the testimony of fired FBI director James Comey. (That’s also long enough to have committed a watch party-adjacent social media gaffe.) Starting at 5 p.m. on Super Tuesday, expect half-off burgers and pizzas, and house wines and a seasonal draft beer priced at $5.
Suns Cinema
3107 Mount Pleasant St. NW
The teeny movie theater—now with the addition of a dedicated bar space—is usually better known for showing cult classics, but it will also be airing live coverage of Super Tuesday.
Union Pub
201 Massachusetts Ave. NE
As part of its year-long election theme, Union Pub will be offering specials all day long. Starting at 11:30 a.m., platters of “totchos”—that’s tater tots topped with traditional nacho toppings, Buffalo chicken, or Old bay and crab dip—are $2 off. Special red, white, and blue-themed cocktails are a buck cheaper, too. Additional specials start at 5 p.m., including $6 rail drinks and $13 Bud Light pitchers. The bar will be airing the returns, and a special Super Tuesday edition of its regular trivia night begins at 8 p.m.
William Jeffrey’s Tavern
2301 Columbia Pike, Arlington
Virginia is one of the states participating in Super Tuesday, and Arlington Dems are gathering at this tavern to watch the results.
