Small businesses, non-profits, and independent contractors have a little more time to apply for relief through the District’s Small Business Recovery Microgrant Program. Applicants now have until 12 p.m. April 1 to submit materials. Businesses interested can apply here.
As part of the COVID-19 emergency bill, Mayor Bowser and the D.C. Council invested $25 million for the recovery of small businesses during the pandemic. The grant application deadline was initially scheduled for Tuesday at midnight—it was then pushed to 6 p.m. After some confusion and concerns around the deadline, it was pushed back again to noon today, according to Interim Deputy Mayor John Falcicchio.
“The grant can cover employee wages and benefits (including fringe benefits associated with employment, such as health insurance), accounts payable, fixed costs, inventory, rent, and utilities,” the application reads.
The city’s website also says that if applicants have their documents on hand and prepared, the application can take up to 30-40 minutes—otherwise, it can take over an hour.
The application lists the types of small businesses, non-profits, independent contractors, and self-employed individuals that are eligible. For more info, visit the coronavirus website.
