With air travel way down during the pandemic, maybe you’ve missed that view of Washington from above as you land at DCA.

Well, now you can catch a glimpse of the nation’s capital from the cockpit of an Air Force Thunderbird jet as it zips past Nationals Park, Audi Field, Navy Yard, East Potomac Park, the Tidal Basin, the National Mall, Georgetown and the Key Bridge.

The video, courtesy of the Department of Defense and Staff Sgt. Cory Bush, is from Saturday’s flyover event featuring the Thunderbirds and the Navy’s Blue Angels.

The planes flew in formation to honor healthcare workers fighting the coronavirus. Video from their Baltimore flyover is also available.

Not everyone, though, felt the event was a proper tribute. It led to crowding on the National Mall as people—both masked and not masked—gathered to watch. Some tried to practice social distancing while outside, but photos from Saturday reveal people standing closer than six feet.
