Vice President Mike Pence is getting flak on Twitter after he tweeted, then deleted, a picture of Trump 2020 campaign staffers seemingly violating public health orders in Virginia.

President Donald Trump’s No. 2 posted an image Wednesday evening of the packed Trump reelection campaign headquarters in Arlington. The photo showed dozens of staffers standing close to each other indoors and none apparently wearing face masks.

“Stopped by to see the great men and women of the Trump-Pence Team today! Thank you for all of the hard work, keep it up!” Pence tweeted. He chairs the national coronavirus task force.

Less than two hours later, the tweet disappeared, after Democratic political operative Ben Tribbett pointed out that face coverings are required in public indoor settings under an executive order from Gov. Ralph Northam.

The reelection campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Representative Don Beyer (D-Virginia) weighed in, referencing Trump’s recent remarks that he is “president of law and order.”

“This isn’t ‘law and order,’” Beyer tweeted. “It’s a huge problem.”

When asked for comment, the Virginia Department of Health directed DCist / WAMU to a spokesperson for Arlington County, who has not immediately responded to a request.

Pence already faced heat for not wearing a mask in Northern Virginia in early May, as well. He showed up to an Alexandria nursing home to deliver personal protective equipment without wearing any himself. The following day, Trump confirmed that Pence’s press secretary, Katie Miller, tested positive for COVID-19.
