The line for coronavirus testing on Thursday at the 14th Street fire station stretched around the block and down 16th Street NW.

Starting Monday, four more fire stations will start to give free coronavirus testing to anyone who wants a test.

The firehouse testing sites are walk-up and no appointment is needed. D.C. Fire and EMS, the Department of Health and the Public Health Lab administers the swab tests.

More than 2,300 people have been tested at firehouses over the past two weeks, according to a press release from Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office.

The program has seen lines that stretch for blocks and waits of two hours or more. Protesters are making up some of the line after officials encouraged them to get tested after being in a crowd. Some pop-up testing sites have also shown up along the protest routes.

The schedule going forward is:

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, 4-8 p.m.

  • Engine 11 (3420 14th St. NW)
  • Engine 24 (5101 Georgia Ave. NW)
  • Engine 31 (4930 Connecticut Ave. NW)

Thursday and Friday, 4-8 p.m., Saturday 12-4 p.m.

  • Engine 8 (1520 C St. SE)
  • Engine 10 (1342 Florida Ave. NE)
  • Engine 30 (50 49th St. NE)
  • Engine 33 (101 Atlantic St. SE)

D.C. also has a walk-up testing site near Judiciary Square on F Street NW between 4th and 5th Streets, a drive-thru/walk-up sites at 2241 Martin Luther King Jr Ave. SE in Ward 8 and at the UDC-CC Bertie Backus campus in Ward 5.
