As D.C. heads into its fourth straight weekend of protests following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, demonstrators are planning to hit the streets again on Saturday and Sunday.
Protests earlier this month drew an estimated tens of thousands of people, and while the crowds have been smaller in recent days, local groups have already announced a number of marches, demonstrations, and actions planned for the next few days, including many in honor of Juneteenth on Friday. You can find a list of those here.
Here are the other demonstrations set for this weekend. This list is not comprehensive and will be updated.
Saturday
The Mass Poor People’s Assembly and Moral March On Washington
Hosted by the Poor People’s Campaign, this digital gathering is presented in partnership with unions and civil rights groups from across the country, and will feature guests like former Vice President Al Gore and actress and activist Jane Fonda. The action will be broadcast online and on MSNBC at 10 a.m., and air again that same day at 6 p.m. and on Sunday at 6 p.m.
Steps & Stats: Walking to Advance Awareness and Action
This march will follow a three-mile route beginning and ending at Woodbridge’s Gar-Field Sr. High School. Masks are required and participants are encouraged to bring signs with statistics that “draw attention to the systematic racism black people face every day.” The group will meet up at 10 a.m.
Black Lives Matter! March and Protest
Hosted by the Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee, Prince George’s County Young Democrats, and protester support organization Gotemall, the march will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the James R. Cousins Jr. Municipal Center in Glenarden and end at FedEx Field. The event, which is not affiliated with the D.C. chapter of Black Lives Matter, will also feature music from go-go group New Impressionz.
Sunday
The march will start at the National Museum of African American History at 9:30 a.m. before heading to Black Lives Matter Plaza, in honor of black fathers who have died and their children. Masks are required and attendees are encouraged to wear black.
D.C. Black Fathers Matter Father’s Day Motorcade
The motorcade will begin at the African American Civil War Museum at 1 p.m. and end at the R.I.S.E. Demonstration Center at St. Elizabeths East. Participants are encouraged to decorate their vehicles, though it’s not required. Balloons, ribbons, and signs will be provided.
